Inviting a member
To add a new member to your organisation, click Invite Member in the portal and enter their phone number. The portal creates an invitation link for that person using https://app.semafore.io/join/{token}.
Share the link with the invited person. If they already have the app installed, the link opens directly in SemaFore. If they are signed out, the invitation is preserved through the sign-in flow.
Member statuses
As a member moves through the signup and approval process, their status changes:
- Invited: You have created and shared an invitation link.
- Registered: The person has signed in and registered a device, but the device is not approved yet.
- Active: An administrator has approved the device and the member can send and receive messages.
- Revoked: Access has been removed.
Approving or denying device registration
When a member registers a new device, it appears in the Members list with a status of Registered or Pending approval.
Before they can use the platform, an administrator must review the registration:
- Approve activates the device immediately.
- Deny rejects the registration without granting access.
Removing access
Click Revoke next to an active member or device to disconnect that device and prevent further message send or receipt.
If a member belongs to more than one organisation, revoking them in your organisation affects only your organisation context.
Changing roles
Your organisation has two member roles:
- Member: Can send and receive messages, join groups, and read broadcasts.
- Org Admin: Has all member permissions, plus the ability to invite members, approve or deny devices, revoke access, change roles, manage groups, send broadcasts, and view audit logs.
To change a member’s role, click on their name in the Members list and select the new role.
Multi-organisation membership
The same phone-number account can belong to more than one organisation. Administrators manage only their own organisation’s membership and cannot see a member’s other organisation affiliations.
Free tier limit
Your free tier allows up to 5 approved members. When you attempt to approve a sixth member, the portal displays an upgrade prompt.
