What the policy controls

The retention policy controls:

  • message text retention
  • file attachment retention

Default settings are:

  • Message retention: 30 days
  • File retention: 30 days

Organisation administrators can configure shorter retention or extend retention up to 365 days.

What happens when content expires

When retained content reaches the configured age, the server removes the affected message body or file ciphertext from retained storage.

The mobile apps keep the conversation entry but display a placeholder:

  • [Content removed] for expired message text
  • [Attachment removed] for expired files

What the policy does not control

Audit events are not subject to message-retention policy. Audit logging follows its own governance and retention rules.

Where admins configure it

Organisation administrators configure retention through the portal Settings screen.
