Groups
What is a group
A group is an encrypted conversation thread within your organisation. Groups are useful for sub-teams, projects, or topics where a subset of your members need to collaborate.
Creating a group
Click Create Group in the portal. Enter a group name and choose the starting members, then click Create.
Only approved members can be added to a group.
Renaming a group
Organisation administrators can rename a group from the group management controls in the portal. The updated name is reflected in members’ conversation lists.
Adding and removing members
Open the group in the portal to view its membership.
- Click Add Member to include an approved organisation member.
- Click Remove next to a member to remove them from the group.
Removing a member from a group does not revoke their organisation access. It only removes them from future activity in that group.
Leaving a group
Members can leave a group from the mobile app. The last member cannot leave a group until another member is added or the group is archived.
Who can send in a group
Any member of the group can send messages and files in that group thread.
Archiving a group
Organisation administrators can archive groups. Archived groups are hidden from the main conversation view but remain part of the historical record for members who already received messages there.
Groups vs broadcasts
- Groups are ongoing conversation threads for collaboration among a defined member set.
- Broadcasts are one-way announcements sent by an organisation administrator to all approved members.
Use groups for collaboration and discussion. Use a broadcast for organisation-wide announcements.
